The Cosumnes River flows from the highlands of the central Sierra Nevada to the lowlands of the Sacramento-San Joaquin Valley and is the last remaining largely dam-free river of the Sierra Nevada. The watershed's unique ecological and cultural values have made it a focus for conservation for over three decades, but those ecological values remain threatened by a combination of groundwater overdraft, direct diversion of flow, land use changes, and climate change. The Cosumnes Coalition works collaboratively with communities, agencies, and individuals, to preserve and restore Cosumnes River values on a watershed scale.
